Terry began his career playing lead guitar for Up With People during his high
school years in the late sixties. He played in various jazz-rock groups while
attending Arizona State University and spent years on the road playing lead guitar
for a variety of artists including Lip Service, The Platters, The Drifters, Donnie
Brooks , The Ohio Express , the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and others. The past few
decades have found him back in his hometown, recording, producing, and playing
country-rock with The Country Green Band, Buddy Alan Owens, Johnny Western,
and the infamous City Limits Band through the 1990s. Terry lists Mike Boomfield,
BB King, Eric Clapton, James Burton, Don Rich, Dickey Betts, Mike Condello, and
Peter Green as his early guitar influences.

Born and reared in landlocked Phoenix, Cherndog's first musical memory is hearing the
Venture's "Out of Limits" on his older brother's new lowboy stereo console, when audio
equipment doubled as furniture. Having an older brother and sister, he was also fed a
steady dose of the Beatles, Cream, Thackeray Rocke and the dreaded terrorist Cat
Stevens, tempered with his parental units' faves Frankie Yankovic and bagpipe tunes.
Having mastered air guitar by age nine, he has since upgraded to Dipinto and Fender
guitars and amps.
He cites a live album by second-wave surf band Jon and the Nightriders and a Los
Straitjackets concert for a boost to his surf guitar education. Andy Summers and Pat
Metheny are his main influences. To keep his "edge," Cherndog watches old videotapes
of the Wallace and Ladmo Show, a Phoenix TV institution which also molded the minds of
local celebrities Alice Cooper, the Tubes and Steven Spielberg. Just look where it got

Michael Kravitz played drums on The

played drums on most of the original surf
hits, his uncle, Hal Blaine!
Lyndsay Mallory, Dawn Brown, &
Sarah King, from the popular
Steelin' The Night Away steel drum
band, played steel drums on The
Swamp Coolers' new cover of
"The Circle Of Life".
Modern jazz singers Nonie
Bernard and Mark
Schufletowski usually work
with classically trained
musicians. They reportedly
found working with The
Swamp Coolers "fun, but
decadent." Nonie and Mark
tracked the complex backing
vocals for the bridge on
"Journey To The Stars" and
"The Circle Of Life."
Japanese hip-hop star Miz
recorded the cool vocal
part, on The Swamp
Coolers' cover of the surf
classic "Mr. Moto", in
Sweden during sessions
for her new CD.
Christopher played
bass for us at The
Rhythm Room. He
grew up just across
the Mississippi from
New Orleans and
giged there before
coming to Phoenix.
He currently plays
bass for Kiss The
Red Alarm.
Steve was our first bass
player. He played bass on
"Surf Island" and tracked
the acoustic guitar for
many of the songs on our
upcoming Christmas CD.
Dave played bass for The
Swamp Coolers for about
a year (07-08) and tracked
the bass on some of the
songs on our upcoming
CD. He currently plays
bass for the Surfside iV.
...reliable sources have indicated that former super sleuth, lawyer, college professor and
surf bum Mike Kunes has surfaced in the desert as part of The Swamp Coolers. Having
been a founding member of the Deadly Nightshades, he became part of the Village Ratz,
the Ball Brothers, the Erector Set, Lip Service, City Kids, Bing of America, the Charlie
Foege experience, Kelly's Heroes and NightHawks at the Diner, as well as touring with
such notables as the 1910 Fruitgum Company, Ohio Express and Iron Butterfly. He has
performed on countless recordings and still plays the bass because "I only have to count
to four."
Jeff played guitar and bass
with The Swamp Coolers
for a few months in '08 and
'09; and he played drums
on our recordings of "What
Do The Matter Be" and "Mr.
Diddy".
Jeff even wrote an excellent
book to honor his father,
Fifty Five Fathers .
Candi Hofmann is the featured singer at The Swamp Coolers' shows.
